Many of the doctrines that differentiate Christian denominations from each other can be traced to a particular method of Bible study favored by their founders. The purpose of this series is to highlight a cardinal rule of Bible study, and that is to “begin at the beginning.” The preeminent example of this method of Bible study is Jesus Himself who, "beginning at Moses and all the prophets . . . expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:27). If all would follow this rule, no one could conclude that Luke 16:19-31 teaches that the dead go straight to heaven or hell, or that 1 Timothy 4: 4-5 authorizes Christians to eat anything.
